Hey all,

Again, Happy New year, hope the hangovers weren't too bad and everything is going well.

Sorry if I offended anyone by my last post... If you didn't like it, I have a feeling you won't like this either...

I just read a story off Fark, which in turn came from savannahnow.com, as in Savannah, Georgia (I really hate it when news sites don't list at least the state they are in... like everyone on the planet is supposed to know where your corner of of the world is - it's a web page, think globally, people... doesn't really matter cause the story itself came from Costa Mesa, California hehe).

Aaanyway, here's a link to the story. I'd love to reprint it but they have one of those copyright thingys on the bottom and that tends to make the slime leak out of the cracks, so I'll just link it...

So the story is about some Catholic parishioners that are upset because the PARENTS of 2 enrolled boys are two gay men. In their favor is the fact that Church doctrine opposes gay relations and adoption. Against them is thousands of years of history, recent social evolution, and common friggin sense.

What the hell is wrong with the country? Why is America so anti-gay now? You'd think with all the overwhelming evidence that it is not a new thing or a fad - it is now, has been, and always will be a part of our society (and the church, and the military, and your friends, and your family...). With all the damn progress we've made, defeating prejudice, stopping stupid violence... now we come full circle again, maybe worse off than we were 30 years ago - expressing terrible amounts of intolerance and hatred.

These parents want the Catholic church to forbid two boys from going to school in THEIR school because they don't like their PARENTS' lifestyle. 'Cause they're gay. I don't use the word disgusting too often, but I think that situation is pretty appropriate.

Apparently there is someone intelligent running that school, fortunately:

"The Rev. Gerald M. Horan, superintendent of diocese schools, said that if Catholic beliefs were strictly adhered to, then children whose parents divorced, used birth control or married outside the church would also have to be banned."

That man deserves a high-five and a really good beer. The Church needs more like him.

His response illustrates what really upsets me about Catholics - hypocrisy. Gays are evil - yet priests molesting boys is something to be played down and ignored. G.W. is against abortion - but we'll not talk about his vehement support of the death penalty.

Jesus preached peace on earth, tolerance, and forgiveness... He took all into his arms, without question or judgment - EVERYONE - good people, bad-people ("sinners"), and ESPECIALLY children.

How easily some Catholics seem to forget that...
