Sorry about the lack of updates, I'm going to try and get caught up in the next couple days...

Ginger Snaps is a Canadian werewolf movie that came out in 2000. It can definitely be classified as horror movie, with dark comdedy elements, and has become something of a cult-classic. I've heard good things about it and finally got to check it out myself recently.

Here's the trailer:

The movie centers around Ginger and her sister Brigitte. They're fairly normal teenage girls, although they do have a deep fascination with death. Generally normal, angst-ridden, sorta-goth kids....

Dealing with normal teenage issues...

Things begin to go awry however when Ginger is attacked by a vicious animal...

...and soon after begins to change...

I really liked this movie, I thought it was a very original take on the usual werewolf story. It does have a few comedic moments, but in all I thought it was a lot darker and more serious than I had thought it would be going in, it turned out to pretty messed-up.

The two main actors did a great job. Ginger is simply smoking hot in a lot of scenes, her red hair really helped create a great look for her. When she wears that hoodie she kinda reminded me of the comic book Magdalena.

I think I ended up liking Brigitte's characters more, she has this sort of quiet badassness about her.

She also does a great job of looking absolutely scared out of her mind (and she does that a lot).

The cinematography was especially well done, there's quite a few really iconic, beautiful scenes. The lighting and colors were awesome, really helped set the tone.

All in all, I thought it was a fantastic movie, definitely a different take on the werewolf genre. It's not common that you see a horror movie focusing on 'realistic' female characters (apparently this movie is especially a big hit with feminists). I want to check out the sequels, Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed and Ginger Snaps Back, even though I heard they are not as good as the original (sequels rarely are...).
